Three Benefits of Having a Balcony

This last week I’ve had a craving for sushi, and I’ve heard great things about The Key Thai Restaurant and Sushi Bar in Key Largo, so I said what the heck and checked it out! This place actually specializes mainly in Thai dishes, but they are also well-known for their sushi. When I was heading over to the spot, I was thinking about ordering a bunch of small dishes but once I got there and took a look at the menu, I decided on getting the sushi boat….for one!

This was like 30 plus pieces of sushi and sashimi, and it was so delicious! They did a great job, and surprisingly, everything on the sushi boat was stuff that I liked. In previous experiences at other sushi restaurants, the chef generally picks out what is going on the plate, and it’s rare to like everything that is on there. Between the salmon, tuna, white tuna, and crab, I was really satisfied with this meal. On top of this being delicious, it was a steal at only $24! Honestly, I would probably skip breakfast and lunch if I were to do this again because I was really full afterward. There’s a myth out there that you can’t get full from eating sushi. The Key Thai Restaurant puts this myth to bed because I left here super full! A lot of problems with other sushi places is it’s not filling enough and you have to eat the 2nd dinner a couple of hours after, and when you’re paying the price for sushi to ultimately have to get another meal to satisfy your hunger, that’s a lot of money spent in one night. FoodiePhil rates The Key Thai Restaurant an 8! I would definitely come back here again, maybe next time I’ll bring a guest so I don’t force myself to eat the entire sushi boat!

Balconies can offer various things from decorations to people watching to reading a good book. In this week’s newsletter, you guessed it; we will focus on balconies! Yes, I am talking to you, condo owners, and prospective condo owners. There are so many options for a balcony, but we want to focus on three key balcony-related topics that we hope will spark up some ideas!

1. The Decoration Aspect

2. The Relaxation Aspect

3. The Profitability Aspect

1. The Decoration Aspect

If you own a property in a metropolitan area, there’s a chance that it comes with a balcony. Balconies can serve many different needs, but one of the most popular is decorating the balcony the way you want it. Many condo owners turn their balconies into a garden, and it adds character to the entire property. From camouflaging the railing with greenery to hanging plants and sculptures, you can design a balcony the way you envision it. When you set up a garden on your balcony, it acts as an extension of your living area, so you can even spice it up with the pots more than you would if they were in the front yard. We recommend getting low-maintenance plants such as cacti, succulents, and cordylines. These types of plants thrive in the sunlight and need minimal water, so it’s a win-win for you not having to care for the plants daily, and it’s a win for the plants as they’ll be getting enough nutrients to grow. Adding a garden to your balcony is not only aesthetically pleasing but strengthens the immune system! Who would’ve thought?

2. The Relaxation Aspect

Whether it is having quiet time and reading a book or watching the sunset every day, balconies can be used in many different ways. While some people enjoy gardens on their balconies, others take advantage of them by using them as a place to get away and relax. On top of having this relaxation spot, it enlarges the living space. Not all people can afford large spaces in a metropolitan area, so being able to maximize all the space that comes with the condo is a huge plus. It is easy to feel trapped when you’re living in a small area in a big city, and the only way to go outside is by getting in an elevator to get out, surrounded by many other people. You have easy access to fresh air and enjoy it instantly when you have a balcony. When converting your balcony to a relaxing space, you have many options to make this a one-of-a-kind balcony!

3. The Profitability Aspect

A balcony is a great way to add value to your home, and sellers often demand premiums if selling with a balcony. The balcony upgrades the overall exterior design of a home and gives homeowner’s a chance to really take in the views while also providing them with a touch of the outdoors without having to go 20 flights down to experience it. Depending on the condo’s location and the size of the balcony, a square foot can often be worth 25-50% of the price of a square foot of indoor space, which will ultimately add good value when selling your home. One of the best aspects of having a balcony is designing it, mainly because you can go in so many different directions. On top of having a balcony that looks good and brings happiness to homeowners, when it comes time to sell, it also increases the value of your home. We would say you are capitalizing not only on the profitability aspect, but also taking full advantage of the balcony while occupying the space. Keep in mind, the quality of construction that goes into the balcony will play a strong role in determining how much value is added when it comes time to sell.

There are many factors to consider when getting into the home-buying process. It’s best to evaluate all options and to really make sure that now is the right time to buy a home. If you’re only focused on the purchase price and interest rate, you’re simply not ready to buy and need to evaluate more to make sure you are not wasting your own time. If you plan on expanding your family, do consider getting a home larger than you originally thought as it will pay dividends in the long run!
